A person with glasses and a long beard stands in front of a brightly lit aquarium filled with colorful coral formations and fish.

Congratulations to Dr. Derek Skillings on being the lead investigator on a new $600,000 grant from the John Templeton Foundation for the project “The Emergence and Evolution of Goal-Directed Behavior in Collective Entities.” This is the largest grant ever received by someone in the Philosophy Department at UNCG.

Experts in philosophy, biology, and mathematics will explore how collective entities like ant colonies, corals, or societies, behave and evolve.
