Congratulations to our Major Ricky Crabtree!
He presented his paper “The Determined Chain: Philosophical and Real-World Accounts of Determinism, Free Will, and Moral Responsibility” at the Tulane Undergraduate Philosophy Conference 2025!

In his paper, Ricky Crabtree acknowledges that both Spinoza and Hume were correct about determinism, but he argues that Spinoza correctly described the nature of the Will (that it’s not free) and came to a superior moral conclusion (to be less judgmental of others). However, Ricky praises Hume for his strong defense of determinism, as well as his emphasis on intentionality for moral responsibility.
